Square And Vodafone Team Up On Payment Gear

It’s getting easier and easier to set up a low cost point of sale system. With tablets and smartphones delivering apps that can integrate wth finance and stock control systems, it’s possible to roll your own PoS easily. And payment services now mean you can skip the bank when looking for an EFTPOS terminal. From today, Vodafone will be selling the Square Reader for just $5 when bundled with selected mobile plans.

Selected Vodafone stores will be selling the Square Reader for just $5 – the usual price is $59 – when bundled with Vodafone’s 24-month $60-and-above Red Plans and $50-and-above SIM Only Red Plans.

As a further sweetener, the processing fee on the first $1,000 in card payments will also be waived for new Square customers.

Square Reader
can read cards either by tapping or by inserting a card. Processing fees for transactions are 1.9% with no monthly fees or other charges. Square says payments are processed into your bank account the next day.

Integrating PoS systems and payment terminals isn’t easy – think of all the times you see a cashier or sales associate enter sales into a PoS device and then re-key the total into a payment terminal. Square’s integration into PoS systems through APIs simplifies that process.
