Cheese and beer are a perfect marriage — but only if they have chemistry to begin with. This handy infographic pairs up nine popular beer types with the cheeses that suit them the most; from sharp cheddar (pale ale) to blue cheese (stout).

The below infographic is from giftware site RedEnvelope. It shows what they consider to be the best cheese and beer pairings. As you can see from the chart, certain cheeses are a good match for multiple beers and vice versa. For example, stout is considered a fitting brew for either blue cheese or gouda, while chevre makes a good pairing with wheat beer and saison, a highly carbonated pale ale.
To be honest, I’m not much of a cheese connoisseur so I have no idea whether these pairings are on the nose, so to speak. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Wheat beers, especially Wit’s, pair really well with the washed rind soft cheeses, the cremier the better, somelike like a double or triple brie, works really well.
It would be a lot less confusing without the arbitrary crossing of lines to make it look more complicated than it is…
