How To Get A Workout Without Leaving Your Chair

How To Get A Workout Without Leaving Your Chair

Video: This week’s lunch break workout is perfect for people who can’t move their legs, or who just don’t want to. That’s right, you’ll work your upper body and core without having to get out of a chair.

In the video, Kym Nonstop gives a shout-out to the US National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability. If you want more ideas for moves you can do despite disability, check out their online guide to wheelchair exercises and their YouTube channel, which has everything from yoga for kids with autism to how to hop, pop and jump your wheelchair.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

Modifications: Some of the moves involve stabilising with your legs, but there’s often also an upper-body-only option.

Equipment: Optional light dumbbells and a two-handled resistance band with anchor. I did the workout without these, just going through the motions with tensed muscles.

Sweat factor: Low to medium, depending on how fast you move.
