Use Prepaid Cards To Keep Kids (Or Yourself) On Budget On Holiday

It’s hard to stick to your budget when you travel, especially if you have kids who want souvenirs or gifts that can add up. Instead, consider loading a prepaid card before your trip and giving it to your kids, or using it to cap your own souvenir spending.

Prepaid travel cards have set amounts on them so you or your kid only has so much to spend. Hand them the card at the start of the trip, tell them how much is on it and let them know that’s how much spending money they have for the holiday. It’s safer than handing over a wad of cash too, since you can quickly cancel the card if it is lost or stolen. Before you decide on a card though, check the issuer’s site for any fees or other charges, how to report the card lost or stolen and how to add more money to the card if you need to.
