Instagram has reportedly been “shadowbanning” certain posts, making them invisible on tagged pages. While it might not be a huge deal to casual Instagram users, it could be concerning if you rely on Instagram to market your business. This tool will tell you if you’ve been shadowbanned.
Instagram has basically disabled some user photos from showing up under the hashtags they use. If you use tagging to promote your photography business, for example, you might see a huge drop in engagement, and that could be a concern for you. The problem is, you can’t really tell if you’ve been shadowbanned because everything you see on Instagram looks normal. Users have only been discovering their photos are banned after they notice a drop in engagement.
This tool, however, will allow you to look up your username or specific photos to see if they have been banned. I don’t use my Instagram account for business, but I do use hashtags to connect with other Instagram users, and I was surprised to find that some of my posts were banned, too. No big deal for me, but again, if you want your photos to be searchable, this could be problematic.
That’s part of the reason Instagram has instituted the ban, to begin with. According to the company behind Instagram scheduling app Plann, there are a few reasons why your photos might be banned:
- Using bots and buying followers
- Using the same hashtags over and over
- Using banned hashtags that have been taken over by NSFW content
