Intel Says Their New SSD Is The World’s Most Responsive

Intel has introduced the Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X Series and Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X Series for the data centre. The performances bump these drives offer, according to Intel, will help drive AI and machine learning applications.

SSDs are all the rage. For notebook computer I would strongly recommend against a spinning hard drive and on the desk, I’d advocate for either an all-SSD approach or OS and apps on a SSD with spinning disks reserved for mass storage where performance isn’t a priority. And the same goes for the data centre.

The new drives are available now to the in Intel’s early shipping program with broad market availability and new capacities, starting with the first drive coming in at 375GB, and form factors coming in the second half of this year.
