Bye Bye Google Talk

Bye Bye Google Talk

Google keeps on refining their product mix. The next service they’re refining out of existence is Google Talk. After eight years, Google Talk is being folded into Google Hangouts. If you’re a Google Talk user you can either transition now or you’ll get pushed over on June 26, when Google Talk will be terminated.

If you’re a Google Talk user or rely on an app that talks to Google Talk then that June 26 deadline will sneak up pretty quickly.

In addition, a number of Gmail Labs features will be getting the bullet. Authentication Icon, Google Voice Player, Picasa previews, Pictures in chat, Quick Links, Quote Selected Text, Smartlabels, and Yelp previews will go and two Google+ features in Gmail, the ability to email Google+ profiles and the use of Google+ Circles, are also for the chop.

    • They are, but they’re not going to upset consumers at the moment. Eventually, I’m sure they’ll move them on to Allo.
