These Calming Video Game Scenes Make Excellent Ambient Noise

The video above shows a peaceful hillside, with the wind blowing the trees and the soothing sounds of birds chirping. Would you guess that scene is from Grand Theft Auto 5? Turns out video games have a ton of scenes perfect for ambient noise.

Game developers spend months (or years) working on their environments, only for most players to rush straight through without stopping to smell the virtual roses. YouTube channel Sleep Ambient HD (among many others like it on YouTube) does that for you. They stand still in a quiet place in a video game for six hours, recording the ambient noise. The results is a surprisingly robust set of videos that are perfect for background noise while you fall asleep. If you’re trying to focus instead of relax, you could also try listening to your favourite game’s soundtrack.
