Overcast, our favourite podcast manager on iPhone, gets a few new features, including an improved interface, new lock screen widget, and more.
The main difference in this update is a move to a card-based visual system as opposed to layered menus. This doesn’t have much of an effect on how you’ll use Overcast, but it does simplify moving between different screens. When you start a podcast, you can swipe down to move the card away and get back to your podcasts list, much like you can in something like Apple Mail. Likewise, you can swipe to the right to set options for an episode or left to see an episode’s details. It’s a simple thing, but it works well and makes a lot of sense once you get used to it. Otherwise, new features include a widget for playback control and 3D Touch support. Queuing is also improved. Now, you can just tap an episode, then tap the playlist button to get a list of options. The update is available in the iTunes App Store right now.
