NBN After-Hours Installation Service Coming Soon, Will Cost $150 Per Customer

Telcos always wants to install new fixed-line services, including those on the National Broadband Network (NBN), during working hours; the most inconvenient time for a lot of people. They usually require someone at the installation premises and some people have to take time off work just to wait for a technician to come over. But it looks like there will soon be an after-hours installation service for the NBN - for a price.

It sucks to take a day off work just to wait at home for a technician to install your NBN service. Because technicians may need to access your home for the installation, you will need to stay put until they come. Telco technicians, at least in my experience, rarely arrive at the scheduled time so you can't even make the most of your day off.

Now NBN Co is setting-up an after-hours installation service, according to the latest NBN roadmap and was first reported by iTNews.

The after-hours service will be available for FTTP, FTTN and FTTB areas and will cost $150 per customer, according to iTNews; and that's on top of the standard installation fee. If you cancel within 24 hours of the scheduled after-hours installation, you'll be slugged with another fee.

Technically, the $150 is levied on the ISP but it's highly likely that cost will be passed on to customers. What ISP would want to absorb the full cost?

According to iTNews, the after-hours service is set to launch on March 20.

I can imagine tomorrow's article; "NBN Co. infuriates customers, changes business hours."
