Turn A Wire Coat Hanger Into A Book Stand

Book stands are useful for propping up cookbooks, music books or even a regular book when you’re reading, cooking or just want to display the pages. If you have a wire hanger, you can make a sturdy book stand in under a minute.

You need a wire hanger and a pair of pliers. If you can’t watch the demonstration in the video above, here’s what to do. Hold the hanger so your hands are on either side of the hook and crunch the top and bottom of the hanger together. Bend the sides down to create an upside down U shape. Use the pliers to really close the ends of the hanger, then bend the last 2.5cm of the hanger up. Move another 2.5cm up the wire and bend again — this creates the “foot” of the stand that will hold each side of your book. Repeat on the other side. Twist the hook so it faces you, curl the end into a tighter hook and attach to the wire that used to be the bottom of the hanger. You can also use this stand for a tablet, just adjust the wire to fit.
