Make A More Refined, Grown-Up Ice Cream Sandwich With A Savoury Bread

Dessert should be sweet, but adding a bit of savoury in there can keep you from experiencing sugar burnout. Swapping out the cookies in an ice cream sandwich for a good, chewy piece of bread makes it less one note, while still being firmly dessert.

Food 52 recommends pairing foccacia with a dark, rich chocolate sorbet or ice cream. To get a little textural goodness in there spread some butter on the bread and give it a slight sprinkling of sugar. Grill that up good so the sugar caramelizes, and get your frozen dairy of choice in there. (If you want to really highlight the savoury factor, leave out the sugar and just grill your bread in butter; it’s fantastic either way.) Biscuits are another heavenly choice, because everything is better on a biscuit.
