Make This High-Protein, Four-Ingredient Ice Cream

If you’ve been craving ice cream, but don’t want the usual high-sugar fare, here’s a simple, protein-packed alternative. You don’t need an ice cream maker, just a little time, patience, four ingredients, and a glint in your eye for homemade ice cream.

Start off by grabbing a tub of cottage cheese (you can use either low or full fat), a frozen banana, 1/2 cup of vanilla flavoured (or any other flavour you desire) whey protein powder, and two tablespoons of freeze-dried berries.

You can swap the freeze-dried berries for anything else — nuts, yogurt chips, granola — you alone have the power. Add sweetener, if you want, too.

Blend everything together and put it in freezer-friendly plastic food container. Freeze for 30-50 minutes, churn this frozen concoction with a fork or spoon and stick it back in the freezer for another 30-50 minutes.

Afterward, give it a quick mix again and devour. Because you’re using whey, this delightful ice cream is high in protein; and thanks to the cottage cheese and banana, it tastes just as creamy as some store-bought ice cream. The only thing is, since it’s lower in fat, you shouldn’t let it sit for too long in the freezer. Otherwise it will become a block of ice.
