Muffins are easier to make than you might think, and even if you grab a boxed mix from the store, you can give yours a little something special by mixing in some candied nuts. The end result is a normally plain muffin with a crunchy sweet treat in every bite.

Whether you’re using a homemade recipe or boxed batter, toss in a handful of candied nuts to take your muffins to the next flavour level. This works with pretty much any type of nut, so use whatever you have in your pantry. If you don’t have candied nuts on hand, you can make your own by throwing a cup of nuts, a tablespoon of butter and a quarter cup of white sugar into a non-stick skillet until the nuts are coated well. Separate and let cool before tossing into your muffin mixture.
