It’s that time of year again when most of the population of Australia puts on silly hats and goes horse-mad for a day. Japanese contender Fame Game is this year’s current favourite, but the race has a long and interesting history going all the way back to 1861, when a horse called Archer became the very first Melbourne Cup winner.
