Safety Alert: Woolworths Store Recals Minced Meat Due To Rogue Metal Fragments

Mince is a good source of iron, but you probably don’t want to ingest additional metals with your spag bol. Woolworths has recalled its Australian pork, lamb and beef mince from one of its stores due to a packaging fault resulting in the presence of dangerous metal fragments that “may cause injury if consumed”.

Here’s the warning issued by Food Standards Australia New Zealand:

Woolworths Limited has recalled Australian pork, lamb and beef mince from Woolworths Singleton in NSW due to a packaging fault resulting in the presence of metal fragments. Food products containing metal fragments may cause injury if consumed. Consumers should not eat this product. The products can be returned to any Woolworths or Safeway store for a full refund.

Currently, the safety recall is limited to a single store in Singleton but it’s probably worth inquiring about the meat before purchasing from your nearest Woolworths outlet. Or, y’know, support the local butcher instead.
