Waste Less Time Checking Emails With These Three Simple Tips

Emails can easily take over our work lives. If you’re an entrepreneur who is spending more time checking business emails rather than progressing the business itself, here are a few tricks to fix this.

Over at Entrepreneur, real estate investor Brandon Turner talked about business tasks that people spend too much time on, one of which was checking emails. He noted that out of all the emails that you receive in a day, only about 20 per cent of them will likely bring you any real benefits.

Turner listed out three methods he uses to stop himself wasting his day on checking emails:

  • Unsubscribe from every newsletter you get except for the absolutely vital ones.
  • Check email only at defined times. If someone has an emergency that can’t wait four hours, he or she will call.
  • Set up canned responses in Gmail for things that you say often. I also currently use a Chrome plugin called ‘Auto Text Expander’, where I set up short codes (like @bio), which will automatically replace my short code with a longer sentence or paragraph.
