This Two-Minute Video Is A Basic Guide To Mediation

Meditation is a simple exercise with all sorts of productivity and health benefits. If you’ve never done it before, this video does an excellent job of breaking down the basics.

The video is narrated by Dan Harris, journalist and author of 10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works. Harris starts by debunking some common meditation stereotypes and pointing out the practical benefits. Of course, he also goes over the simple steps you need to get started. Most of us already know meditation involves sitting and breathing, but Harris addresses the crucial purpose of meditation:

Your brain is going to go nuts, and that’s fine. The whole game is to notice where you’ve gotten lost, and then to start over. And then start over again. And again. And again. Every time you do that, it’s like a bicep curl for your brain…Meditation is like anything else you do in your life. Failure is actually success.
