Whether you’re a budding YouTuber or just want a stable rig to get great overhead shots, you don’t have to spend money on a pricey camera rig to get stable shots. This one costs less than $US35 ($46), is completely DIY, and won’t take up a lot of space if your only shooting space is a tiny apartment or small side room.
The video above, from YouTuber Energy Researcher, tells the tale, but here’s the shortlist of parts you’ll need, thanks to DIY Photography:
- 36″ x 3/4″ Aluminium square tube $US13.19 ($17)
- 5/16″ wing nuts $US4.50 ($6)
- 5/16″ fender washers $US10.49 ($14)
- 5/16″ carriage bolts $US1.73 ($2)
- 1/4″ coupling nut $US4.43 ($6)
If you have some of these lying around, you can save even more on the whole rig, but of course, prices may vary depending on where you live and your local hardware store. From there, it’s really just about doing a little drilling to make holes for the weights and the mounting bracket, and screwing everything together and putting it on top of your — hopefully pre-existing — tripod. As nice as this is for overhead shots, you could just as easily use it for boom lighting or a microphone. Hit the link below for more, or play on the video above to see how it’s assembled.
