This DIY Crutch Pocket Keeps Your Stuff In Reach When It’s Tough To Get Around

Being bound to crutches makes it hard enough to get around, and if you’re used to carrying a bag or purse, losing use of an arm (or two!) just to stand or move makes that tough as well. Try making this DIY pocket and strapping it to your crutch — or crutches — for a little extra cargo space.

This design creates multiple pockets to attach to your crutches. You’ll need:

  • Two 15cm x 20cm pieces of fabric (main pocket)
  • Two 15cm x 18cm pieces of fabric (phone pocket)
  • Four 13cm pieces of elastic
  • Four 18cm ribbons
  • Velcro
  • Sewing machine (optional)

You can see step-by-step instructions in the video above, but here’s the basic idea. Sew the phone pocket, then attach it to the main pocket fabric. Attach the elastic to the main pocket fabric and then sew the Velcro to the ends of the elastic so you can wrap it around the crutch and hold the pockets on. Last, attach the ribbon to the top of the main pocket so you can tie the pockets to the crutches for extra support. Besides storing necessary items in the pockets, you can clip things like keys or a small water bottle to the ribbons with a carabiner.
