Strava’s New Safety Beacon Sends Your Running Or Cycling Location To A Friend

Android/iOS: Strava is one of our favourite exercise apps and today they’re rolling out a new safety feature that will send your location to up to three people while you’re working out.

The idea here is super simple: If you’re out on a run or bike ride, there’s a good chance you didn’t tell anyone exactly where you’re going. The new Beacon mode allows you to share your GPS location live, so if you don’t show up back at home on time, people can find you. To turn on the feature, open up the app, start a new ride or run, then tap the Beacon icon in the lower right. Once it’s active, the contacts you select will be able to see your location either in the Strava app or with a URL that will work in any browser. Unfortunately, you’ll need to be a Premium subscriber to use this feature.
