You Can Now Jailbreak Just About Any Kindle

Jailbreaking a Kindle comes with a variety of benefits, including installing custom screensavers and software, but most recently the availability of the jailbreak has been restricted to a small handful of firmware. Now, its seeing a much wider release.

The new jailbreak basically requires you to roll back to the factory firmware for your Kindle model, copy over the jailbreak file, run a command on the Kindle itself and then wait for the jailbreak to complete. Once it does, you can upgrade to the latest official Amazon firmware and the jailbreak will survive. Like most jailbreaks, you’ll need to make sure you’re grabbing the correct firmware for your device, and there’s always a risk of bricking your device. That said, when you do jailbreak you get all kinds of benefits, including access to interactive novel readers, audiobook players and custom screensavers.
