Croutons are pretty much flawless, but if you’re looking to shake up your seasonal soups, consider topping them with that prince of a breakfast item: Granola.

It’s not something that would work with every single soup (granola tomato soup would be bizarre) but for wintry favourites like butternut squash, pumpkin or a creamy coconut curry, the nutty, slightly sweet topping is beyond complementary. If you’re weirded out by the sweet factor, try toasted nuts. They have a similar, though savoury, effect.
