YouTube Adds Live Streaming To Its Mobile App

Live video has been available on YouTube for years, but you’ve only been able to broadcast from your desktop browser. That’s about to change, as Youtube is launching live streaming in their mobile app today.

With Facebook Live and Periscope dominating the current wave of live mobile video, YouTube is sort of playing catch up. They have innovated in other areas though (like 360-degree video and even 360-degree live streams from Coachella), but those features have rarely prioritised mobile video creation for average people. With the new live streaming feature, you’ll be able to broadcast with nothing more than the YouTube app on your phone.

They’re launching today with a few YouTubers at VidCon, the popular conference for video creators, so the feature isn’t immediately available to everyone. They promise to roll out live streaming more widely “soon”.
