The Simple Sidebar Desktop

The Simple Sidebar Desktop

This chill, cityside beach desktop was submitted to our desktop show and tell pool by reader Yuki, and even though it’s not elaborate, it still looks great. Here’s how you can set it up too.

Yuki is using Rainmeter on Windows to get this effect, so if you’re not familiar with it, you can check out our Rainmeter getting started guide here.

From there, here are the components you’ll need to get the same look for your computer:

  • The wallpaper
  • The Rainmeter system tweaking and monitoring tool for Windows
  • The Enigma skin for Rainmeter for the calendar and left sidebar
  • The Gnometer skin for Rainmeter for the Gmail add-on
  • The Drizzle skin for Rainmeter for the time and date effects

That’s all there is to this one. Not a ton of moving parts, but a pretty solid effect, especially if you’re the type who misses the sidebar from earlier versions of Windows and want to get something like it back on your desktops. If you like the look of this, head to the Flickr link below and let Yuki know that you love the desktop — and that we sent you along!
