If your family uses Uber to get around, you can now have a little more peace of mind by following your family members’ trips in real time.
Uber is introducing a new safety feature that can notify you whenever a member of your “Family Profile” takes a car, and then you can even follow their trip on a map in real time. Uber introduced Family Profiles earlier this year, enabling users to share one payment method so you could, for example, pay for all of your daughter or son’s fares if you’re a parent. Of course, you can add anyone to a shared account, whether they’re a friend or colleague or loved one.

You could already share real time maps of your trip if you chose to, but this new Trip Tracker feature is designed particularly with families in mind. If I was a parent of a teen I know I’d find some relief in my parental smartphone panopticon.
