Turn An IKEA Wine Rack Into A Wall-Mounted Herb Garden

Your own private herb garden in your kitchen means fresh herbs whenever you want them, but you don’t need an outdoor garden to build one. Here’s how you can use a cheap IKEA wine rack to create your own inexpensive wall-mounted garden.

The great thing about this is that you’re essentially moving your window box or container herb garden into your kitchen and putting it in a spot that doesn’t take up valuable counter space. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A VURM wine rack ($15.99)
  • 4 herb plants
  • 4 pint glasses (you can get cheap ones at thrift stores)
  • 2 cups of rocks or marbles
  • Extra soil as needed

You should look for glasses that will fit snugly into the spaces meant for wine bottles. When deciding where to place your rack, keep in mind how much sun your herbs will need.

Fill each glass about one third full of rocks or marbles. This will provide drainage for your plants. Place a little soil on top of the rocks, then put one plant into each glass. Mount the VURM rack on the wall horizontally, not vertically as it is designed to go. Place each glass into a spot.
