- Generally, walk heel first to give yourself a solid step that supports you and makes you look confident.
- On stairs, walk toe first when going up in case you miss a step, you'll have an easier time catching yourself. When going down, plant your whole foot firmly before taking the next step.
If you're just starting out with heels, look for ones that aren't as high and that have ankle straps to offer more support. What this all comes down to is keeping stability in mind, from the design of shoes you buy to how you walk in them.
