Clean And Freshen Your Mattress In 3 Simple Steps

Clean And Freshen Your Mattress In 3 Simple Steps

Even if you’re pretty good about washing your bed sheets, it’s easy to forget that your mattress can use a good cleaning every now and again too. This simple three-step method will make your mattress seem like new again.

If your mattress could use a little TLC, this video from the Consumer Reports YouTube channel explains what you need to do:

  1. Vacuum your mattress: Start by removing your sheets and vacuuming your mattress with the upholstery extension on your vacuum cleaner so you can get rid of a lot of the nasty stuff you can’t really see.
  2. Sprinkle baking soda: Carefully sprinkle bicarbonate of soda across the entire mattress. Use as much as you need to cover every centimetre and don’t hesitate to use up the box. You can also add some essential oils if you want. Now let it sit for a full 24 hours, and expose your mattress to sunlight if possible.
  3. Vacuum again: Use you vacuum’s upholstery attachment to vacuum up all the bicarbonate of soda.

This will extend the life of your mattress and help keep your bed smelling fresh. The hardest part is letting the baking soda sit for 24 hours, but it’s totally doable if you’re going out of town for the weekend or don’t mind crashing on the couch for a night.
