Interview Questions SMBs Should Ask Before They Make A Hire

When you operate a small business, hiring talent is a completely different ball game to when you recruit in a big company. You’re looking for people who can adapt to different roles and the process is usually less formal. But that doesn’t make it any easier. Knowing what questions to ask an applicant during an interview can be challenging. We have some suggestions.

Over at LinkedIn’s Talent blog, Paul Petrone, proposes four questions that small business owners should ask job candidates during the interview process:

  • Why do you love this industry?
  • How will you provide excellent experiences to our customers?
  • When’s the last time you were solely responsible for the success or failure of a project?
  • Tell me about the last time you had to learn a new skill to complete a project.

He then suggests taking the interviewee out to lunch after the interview is over to see if the person is somebody who you can build a strong working relationship with.
