Being Uncomfortable Selling Your Products Is Actually Kind Of Selfish

Selling stuff doesn’t always come naturally to everyone. This is doubly true for freelancers or people who have to sell their own work. If you’re having trouble, keep in mind: selling isn’t about you.

As marketing expert Ben Angel explains, selling something is a conversation between you and a customer. When you’re focused on your own fears and discomfort, you’re paying less attention to what the customer needs. In a way, that’s kinda selfish! While that discomfort is completely natural, it also gets in the way of helping the person you’re talking to.

Customers come to you with a need, which is why they’re customers to begin with. That need should generally trump any discomfort you have. Of course, knowing that doesn’t magically make it go away, but it should help you gain some perspective. If they weren’t at least somewhat interested in what you have to offer, they wouldn’t be your customers to begin with. Check out the full video at the source link below for more on the topic.
