Protect Garden Labels Against Water With Clear Nail Polish

Protect Garden Labels Against Water with Clear Nail Polish

Making your own garden labels takes just some popsicle sticks and a sharpie, but water can make the ink run, or the wood rot. You can save them with something you've likely already got sitting around: nail polish. Image from muddybones.

Make your labels as normal, but after the ink has dried, cover the plant name with a coat of clear nail polish and let it dry. Your labels will be protected against rain or water from your own watering hose, as well as any dirt they may pick up. If you're just getting started with planning your garden, you can make your labels and coat them so they're ready to go straight into the ground.
