How To Spruce Up Your Living Space On A Budget

Whether you have just bought your first home and can’t afford to decorate yet, or you are renting and therefore aren’t allowed to decorate, don’t worry! You don’t have to spend a fortune to turn your house into a home; it is actually the little things that really make the biggest difference. Here six tips that will add a personal, welcoming touch to your abode…

The most important thing to think about when adding the personal touch to your home, is to embrace the things you love — whether this is an animal, a sport or a country — and then incorporate them into the décor.

#1 Create a photo wall

Photos are the perfect way to add the personal touch to your home and are ideal for those times when you can’t decorate. You could choose a selection of quirky frames and either display your favourite photos, your favourite prints, or a mixture of both.

Canvas is always great for the wall, so how about a personalised canvas print; either on your photo wall or as a stand-alone piece on its own wall? Just choose your favourite photo and upload it to PhotoBox and the rest is done for you. All you have to do is decide where you’re going to hang it.

#2 Add wall stickers and stencils

Wall stickers and stencils are a great temporary way to add character to a room, without the need for painting or wallpapering. This could be anything from a large image that fills the wall to a smaller subtler image, quotes or a mixture of the two in either black and white or colour.

These are just as easy to attach as they are to remove, so you can take them down if you are moving out or change them if you get bored of one. (If you’re renting, make sure they’re safe to remove from painted walls.)

#3 Get Crafty

If you want to add a personal touch to your home, why not get crafty and start creating your own unique items for your home? This could be anything from cushion covers to candles. Try joining a new class, such as pottery, where you can learn a new skill, meet new people and make some one-off pieces for your home!

#4 Add some greenery

Plants really add life to a room and are a great way to add a personal touch — whether you choose a larger houseplant, bunches of flowers or a cactus and bonsai tree.

#5 Upcycle your furniture

Take your old furniture and turn it into something completely new. For example, how about taking a picture frame and putting it around a mirror – this will create a fancy focal point in any room and will be personal to you.

#6 It’s the little things…

Colourful lampshades, mirrors, large vases, candles, rugs, it is the little changes that you make around the home that will make it your personal space.
Perhaps you love to travel and always pick up quirky items along the way — place these around the home, and make sure it is full of memories.
