Ultra-plush carpet looks and feels great, but its thickness makes vacuuming a lot more difficult. Here are two simple things you can do make things easier on your vacuum cleaner. This video from the Consumer Reports YouTube channel demonstrates how standard vacuum cleaners get caught on carpet marketed as ultra-plush or ultra-soft. The thickness of the carpet's fibres force the vacuum to make too tight of a seal, and the vacuum's power head bristles have too many fibres to comb through. There are vacuums out there that are designed to handle ultra-plush carpet, but you don't necessarily need to buy one yet. If you have ultra-plush carpet in your home, there are two things you can do to make vacuuming a little easier:
- Raise the manual height adjustment on your vacuum's power head.
- Adjust and lower the suction control on your vacuum.
The combination of these two tweaks will prevent your vacuum from getting stuck or caught, and lets your vacuum work as well as it can on thicker carpets.
