Dealhacker: Get A Free VR Headset By Pre-Ordering The Samsung Galaxy S7

The Samsung Galaxy S7 launches in Australia two weeks from now. If you’re keen to snap up this flasgship smartphone on contract, you can score a free Galaxy Gear VR virtual-reality headset by pre-ordering the Samsung Galaxy S7. Bargain!

The latest version of Samsung’s virtual-reality headset will be given to customers who pre-order a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 edge before March 10. The deal will apparently be available from Australian telcos as well as through Samsung’s website. There’s a maximum of one headset per pre-order.

It’s not yet clear whether Samsung is releasing a new version of the headset specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S7 or if it will use the 2015 model. Either way, you’re saving a minimum of $150 based on the current model’s RRP.

For those who aren’t in the know, the Gear VR is a virtual reality headset powered by Oculus Rift technology and your smartphone, which acts as an immersive 3D display. You can then load up apps and interactive movies that place the wearer “inside” the experience — you’re immersed in a 360 degree world with the view following your head movements. The device has been used for everything from virtual U2 performances to live-streamed child births. It has also been used by Qantas for in-flight entertainment.

The pre-order pages for Samsung’s Galaxy S7 aren’t up and running yet, but the deal should be appearing in the next few days. Keep your eyes peeled!
