Watch 30 Popular Life Hacks Get Put To The Test

Video: Not all life hacks are created equal. In fact, some of them are downright terrible. This video puts 30 of them to the test so you know which ones are even worth attempting. In this video from the Mental Floss YouTube channel, host John Green takes on 30 of the "life hacks" floating around the internet with wit, sarcasm and plenty of humour. Some of them are downright terrible and fail comically, like turning the top of a pizza box into plates, tearing apart an apple barehanded after removing the stem, and karate chopping a watermelon. But some of them actually work quite well, like using a rubber band to open a jar of pickles, freezing your onions before you cut them to avoid crying, using a bundt cake pan for trimming corn on the cob and using a plastic bag to make your smartphone beach-friendly. Some of Green's attempts don't go very far, like when he half-tries to peel a mango with a glass (something we've tested ourselves), but it's certainly entertaining to watch anyway.

Apple one works when you do it right, I've done it many times. Helps to have a crisp apple and not one that's soft though.
Also wouldn't consider it a "life hack", a life hack would be to use a knife.

He's clumsy and an incompetent. I doubt whether he's ever sliced an onion in his life. He tries to peel what looks like an unripe mango, cooked vs raw egg works if you speak English properly - he took "wobble" to mean "spin" and got it wrong, only three seconds of shaking and expecting whipped cream, quarters and karate chops - bah humbug... Not sure I'm ever going to watch this channel again - other than for the cringey comic relief.

I get that it is supposed to be a bit of fun, but if you are going to describe it as "debunking" it implies you are going to test them sensibly & fairly.
