The new year is fast approaching, and that means we’re all starting to think about resolutions. We want to know what’s worked for you. What’s your greatest habit-forming success story? Or better yet, what’s your biggest habit-forming failure?

We’ve all tried to make changes to our life for the better. Sometimes they work out, and sometimes we crash and burn — hard. Maybe you managed to finally wake up early on a daily basis, or maybe you tried your hardest to stop your late night snacking to no avail (both things I’m trying to do, help me). Whether it’s something you’re proud of, or a pitfall you don’t want others to fall into, share your secrets with us. Here’s an example of what you should include in your stories:
What habit did you try to start or change? Were you successful?
What things worked for you?
What didn’t?
What advice would you give someone trying to do the same thing?
So let’s hear it in the comments below! We want your greatest triumphs and your biggest breakdowns. The more we can learn from each other, the less we have to learn on our own.

What habit did you try to start or change? Were you successful?
I wanted to lose weight and get fit, so I started running. I ran my first ten-k in six months, so I deems that successful, even if I was slow.
What things worked for you?
Small steps. That first day I thought that I was going to die after 100m. Seriously. So the next I just added on a little, then a little, and a little more. Each day I would add on just the smallest amount, even if it was just an extra ten metres or increasing the speed just that little bit. So, it was doing it every day and keeping the increases reasonable.
What didn’t?
I injured myself (not from running) and expected to get straight back into it. Because I had the skill already I wasn’t patient with the set back, injured myself further. The biggest problem though – PMS.
What advice would you give someone trying to do the same thing?
Patience and small steps. Reasonable goals along the way.
