Decorate Cookies Like A Pro With A Mesh Strainer

Decorate Cookies Like A Pro With A Mesh Strainer

Homemade cookies make a great gift, and you can make yours look near-professional with just a mesh strainer and powdered sugar.

This technique is so easy that even young kids can help decorate the cookies. Put either powdered sugar or cocoa powder into a mesh strainer (use a bowl to rest the strainer and catch extra powder). Line your baked, cooled cookies next to each other on top of parchment paper. Dust the cookies with powder by gently tapping the mesh strainer as you move it above the rows of cookies. Tap the cookies as you remove them from the paper to get rid of loose powder. Gather the edges of the paper together and pour the extra powder back into the strainer for the next batch.

Bon Appetit has five more decorating techniques you can use. They range in difficulty, but you can master any of them with a few tries. Check out the video above to see each technique.
