Google Upgrades Play Books App For Comic Book Fans

Comic book fans rejoice: Google has changed up its Play Books app, making it easier for Android phone and tablet users to read comics on their devices. The company has added personalised comics recommendations and curated series pages in the Play Books store along with other features to make the comic reading experience more pleasurable.

“Reading a comic book is all about following the story and enjoying the art, dialogue and pace the way you want. But navigating a comic can be tricky on a small phone or tablet screen,” Google Play Books senior product manager Greg Hartrell said in a blog post. Which is why the Google Play Books update, designed specifically for comic fans, has added the following features:

  • Vertical scrolling for reading comics in landscape mode
  • Personalised comic recommendations in Play Books store based on what you have read in the past
  • Curated series pages in Play Books store that organise volumes, issues and other editions of top selling comic series.

Google Play Books store features comics from all major publishers, including DC Comics, Marvel and Dark Horse.

The Play Books upgrade will rollout to Australian Android users over the next few days.
