Branson is a firm believer of still enjoying life even with his demanding job. In fact, he’s currently in Australia for business but has still taken a day off to go kite surfing in Noosa. Branson believes that having downtime is important, but workers mustn’t forget to take time out to improve their fitness and health.

“If you’re not feeling fit or healthy, your batteries quickly run down and you’re not going to be able to perform at work and in general as well,” he told Lifehacker Australia at an event for R U Okay? Day. “Everybody has to find half an hour or 45 minutes a day to make sure they keep fit and stay healthy.”

This could include joining a lunchtime sports group, exercising before or after work and taking time to prepare healthier meals.

Branson noted that companies have a role to play in ensuring the health and wellbeing of staff. Some of the subsidiaries of Virgin Group are experimenting with providing employees with much more flexibility in terms of work hours and taking days off.
