Build A Flexible, Floating Coat Rack With Included Shelf

When space is at a premium at home, you’re always looking for ways to get the most from your storage. In this video, Bob from I Like To Make Stuff does exactly this, by combining a coat rack with a floating, adjustable shelf.

There’s nothing especially complicated about the build, if you’re familiar with woodworking, though it does have a few interesting additions. The first is the French cleat used to secure the shelf to the wall. Rather than screw it into a fixed position, the cleat allows you to adjust the shelf’s position without having to undo anything.

The second part is the “cubby hole” above the coat hangers. Because of the cleat, it was easy enough to add a shelf above the coat hangers, one that would be able to support the weight of a variety of objects.

If you’d like to check the project out, there’s a step-by-step guide over at Instructables. Otherwise, the process is explained in the video above.
