When you travel, there are tons of fees you have to be aware of. If you’re travelling in Italy or France, look out for the table fees charged at many cafes if you want to sit down and relax a while. You can save on them by drinking at the bar, or choosing an inside table instead of one on the patio.

Compared to standing at the bar, you’ll usually get charged about the price of your drink to sit. If you’re only ordering a coffee or other drink, you may want to opt for standing to save money, and you’ll probably meet other patrons that way too. Rick Steves notes that most cafes have these prices posted when you walk in, but if you’re not sure, ask the waiter if there is a fee to sit at the cafe’s tables before you take a seat.

a fee to sit >< seems like a racket.
Kind of like charging a euro to use a toilet. They were reasonably clean too. People just use the streets instead. 🙁
