The Skype for Business service launched a few months ago on the desktop Skype application which integrates into Microsoft’s Office apps. It allows businesses to add up to 250 people to online meetings along with management tools to oversee employee accounts for a set monthly fee per user.

The iOS and Android apps will carry new features including:

  • New dashboard for easy navigation of your contacts, calls and meetings
  • Aesthetic changes to the in-call and in-meeting experience to make it easier functionality on a phone or tablet
  • Contact search bar can search for contacts by first name, last name, email alias or phone number
  • Upcoming appointments are displayed neatly in a calendar and there’s a Quick Join icon to jump into a meeting call straight away.

To join the preview program, IT administrators will need to go to the Skype Preview page to nominate up to four end users for iOS and four for Android to participate. To be in the first group of testers for the apps, administrators will have to apply before Friday, August 14 (US time). Microsoft will notify those who have been accepted into the program from around August 17.

If you already have Microsoft Lync 2013 on your iOS or Android device and you’ll automatically get the new Skype for Business app as an update later in the year.
