Google Drive Adds Plugin For MS Office

Google would undoubtedly prefer you used Docs, but if you’ve got Word, Excel or Powerpoint files stored in your Google drive, a simple plug-in now allows you to edit them on the go.

Google’s heralding the move as part of a more “open platform” for Google Drive, extending the choice of file formats that you’d edit via Google’s own platform. Once edited, any Word, Excel or Powerpoint documents you’ve worked on can then be saved back to Google Drive — we see what you did there, Google — in their native Microsoft Office formats.

The Google Drive Plug-In for Microsoft Office is a free download, currently for Windows only.
