Having a routine can be comfortable, but it can also get you stuck in a lazy rut. If you’re tired of coming home from work only to plop on the couch, don’t let yourself come home until you’ve done something else.

Sometimes the only way to break a routine is to flagrantly disrupt it. That’s why Adrienne Breaux at Apartment Therapy suggests you remove your ability to plop on the couch at home altogether. When you get off work, think of one thing to do before you’re allowed to go home. Or better yet, start planning daily activities ahead of time.
It could be running an errand, getting in some exercise, or even plopping on someone else’s couch. The fact that you changed up your routine might make your day feel a little more fulfilling, even if you’re practically doing the same thing with other people somewhere else. There’s nothing wrong with being lazy sometimes (especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed), but if you’re looking for real change, cut off the source.

Most of us have things to do when getting home anyway. Be it feeding animals/children, chores, laundry, opening wine. It’s rare that I’ll simply get home and crash. That usually happens after dinner and wine.
