Save Burned Rice By Making This Simple Soup

A great way to reduce kitchen waste is to find clever alternative uses for foods, and burned rice (if you’ve ever burned rice) is no exception. The next time you let the rice cook a little too long, make this simple soup from the burned rice at the bottom of the pot.

All you need to do is scrape the crispy rice bits together (use a shamoji paddle to make this easier) and combine them with hot water or green tea. You can even soak especially tough rice right in the pot by pouring the water or tea straight in. When I make this rice soup, I like to add in tofu, seaweed, and a little miso paste to make it a bit more filling (and produce a meal that turns trash into treasure.) Either way, you’ll end up with a tasty, simple soup that uses up the “ruined” part of your rice.
