Google Maps is packed to the brim with useful information about the world around you like when stores closed and how long it will take you to get there. Now, the app will combine those pieces of information to warn you that a store will be closed by the time you get there.

As Android Police points out, the notification (seen above) will appear if you begin navigation towards any location that will be closed by the time you arrive. Obviously, this will only work for a location that Google actually has hours of operation info on. Unfortunately, it still won’t tell you it’s a dumb idea to go to your friends’ house unannounced at 3am and ask to crash on their couch.

Google Maps Now Warns You If You Are Navigating To A Place That Will Be Closed When You Arrive [Android Police]

Last month wandering around Scotland using Google Maps I found a very large number of the tourist sites (particular Scottish Heritage sites) have totally incorrect opening times. Restaurants often close the kitchen before the official closing time, sometimes hours before. It’d be great if Google could add a “verified” tag to locations, to crowd source the realistic opening and closing times.

    • The entire point of this very short article is about a system Google’s put in place to warn you of closing times when you BEGIN navigating there.
