How To Make A Laptop Stand With Inbuilt Fans

Have you ever wanted a laptop stand that could double as a cooling solution? This DIY version from IKEA Hackers can be knocked together for under $20 — and it looks pretty snazzy to boot. Read on for full instructions.

To construct your own cooling laptop stand, you’ll need an IKEA Brada laptop stand ($4.99), an IKEA Lansa stainless steel handle ($6.99), three old desktop fans connected to a single USB cable and a four-port USB hub. Here’s how to construct your own:

  1. Drill two holes in the Brada for the screws to go through and attach the LANSA handle.
  2. Using a hole saw, drill three circles where you wish to position the fans. Screw on the fans with the right sized screws.
  3. Attach the USB hub to power the fans on the underside of the Brada with glue.
  4. Saw two additional circles and glue a pair of CDs in place for decorative purposes. (Optional.)
