While fighting should be avoided at all costs, everyone should know a little self-defence in case of emergency. This video explains what proper fighting stance should look like and why it's half the battle.
The video, hosted by Jack Slack on the Fightland YouTube channel, goes over the history of fighting stance while explaining its importance in all martial arts.
For most folks, placing your left foot in front of your right as demonstrated in the video is best. Having your feet staggered allows you to move freely and brace your body for blows. It also provides the power you need to throw a proper punch. If you were to remove the stance, your back would be doing all the work. You would be slower and it increases your chance of falling (which is really quick way to lose a fight). Most fights can be avoided, but if you find yourself in one, at least make sure you start with a good stance.
