Gmail for Android Gets a Combined Inbox View, Better Search, and More

Android: If you're tired of switching between your accounts just to see all your new email, Gmail has finally added a unified inbox view that shows all your messages, from all accounts, in one place.

The "All Inboxes" view combines email from all your accounts, including IMAP accounts for other services (like Yahoo or Outlook). Those non-Gmail accounts also get threaded conversations, just like Gmail, which is a nice touch.

This update also sports better autocomplete in search, more responsible animations, and a button to save attachments to Drive. We're not seeing it in Google Play yet — as with many Google updates, it's likely rolling out to all users slowly.

While a combined inbox is welcome, the widgets remain the same with separate inboxes. Also, there is still no way of identifying which message came from which account without going into each message. In the accounts list there is still no way of identifying each account from the other. An improvement, but not enough.

I couldn't agree more. One of the most important features of any smartphone is email. I have 6 accounts for different companies and want to be able to see new messages on a widget without opening the email app. Why don't people get this basic need! We are going backwards in functionality.
